Minimed Pump

The Minimed pump allows diabetics to manage their diabetes better than ever before. Not only does the Minimed pump allow for a constant flow of insulin into the diabetic’s body but it allows checks blood sugar levels multiple times per hour all day and all night. The benefit of this is that diabetics can see where their blood sugar levels are on the rise or going down and do something to prevent hypoglycemia or hyperglycemia before it happens. This could be by eating something to increase blood sugar levels or increasing the insulin to lower levels. The Minimed pump allows for successful diabetes management.

Minimed Pump Details

The Minimed pump requires diabetics to work with an expert on the pump to learn how to use it. Usually, a couple of appointments are set up so the Minimed pump expert can teach the patient how to use it. Once the patient is well educated the doctor will allow them to begin using their pump under strict supervision. There are many benefits to using the Minimed pump, however if patients are not fully trained they may administer too much insulin and become hyperglycemic.

Effects of Using the Minimed Pump

The Minimed pump has many uses and benefits. Diabetics using the Minimed pump will not need to follow a strict meal schedule and also will not have to take so many daily insulin injections. In fact, the Minimed pump can eliminate the need for insulin injections altogether. Diabetics appreciate the Minimed pump because it allows for discreet insulin administration and an active lifestyle.

Using the Minimed Pump

The Minimed pump is fairly easy to use once you learn how to use it. It takes some practice and some effort; however over the course of a few appointments diabetics are able to learn how to effectively use the medical device. Besides using the actual Minimed pump diabetics must also learn how to insert the catheter into their abdomen. It’s similar to giving an injection, but the benefit is that the catheter can stay in for a couple of days before it must be changed.

Minimed Pump Options

The Minimed pump has been designed for diabetics from 7 up. The reason there is not a model for younger children is because the child must be able to learn how to use the pump under adult supervision. The pediatric model is made for diabetics 7-17. The adult model is similar to the pediatric model but larger and has more capabilities.

Minimed Pump Insurance

The Minimed pump is covered completely by many insurance policies. However, some insurance policies will only cover a small portion and other policies won’t cover the Minimed pump at all. Also, there are some insurance policies that will cover certain insulin pumps and not others so it’s important to always do the research.
