Blood Glucose Chart

A blood glucose chart is used to track levels of blood sugar (glucose) in a diabetic’s system. When a person is diagnosed with diabetes, it is because they either do not produce the hormone insulin or they do not produce enough of the hormone insulin. Insulin is necessary to regular levels of blood glucose. A blood glucose chart assists in the process of tracking blood glucose to know when an injection of insulin is necessary.

Blood Glucose Chart - Reasons

Using a blood glucose meter (or glucometer) to check blood glucose levels is important. By using a blood glucose meter the diabetic can see how meals, activity and medications affect their blood glucose. This information can be recorded on a blood glucose chart to track any trends and to share with a physician.

Blood Glucose Chart - Methods

Some diabetics use an electronic blood glucose chart, while others use a manual blood glucose chart. Either way, the blood glucose chart is a valuable tool in the management of diabetes. The benefits of an electronic chart are numerous. Entries can easily be recorded and printed to share with the physician. Manual blood glucose charts are also valuable, as they do not require batteries are charging so are available any time.

Blood Glucose Chart - Advantages

There are numerous advantages to the usage of a blood glucose chart. The most important advantage is that the diabetic and his/her physician have information of long term blood glucose levels. This advantage also allows the diabetic to monitor their blood sugar more accurately since they have the information right at hand on their blood glucose levels.

Blood Glucose Chart - Disadvantages

There are not too many disadvantages to a blood glucose chart. The main disadvantage is that if a diabetic patient does not have a regular routine they might forget to record information on the blood glucose chart, then the long term trends might not be as accurate. But for the diabetic who is serious about monitoring their blood glucose and sharing it with their physician, there are no disadvantages to a blood glucose chart.

Blood Glucose Chart - Summary

A blood glucose chart is used by diabetics to monitor and record their blood sugar levels after reading those levels with a blood glucose meter. The purpose of a blood glucose chart is to track blood glucose levels over time, and to store to share with a physician during a regular check up. There are various ways to use a blood glucose chart, but the bottom line is that it is a valuable tool to manage diabetes. It is important for a diabetic to use a blood glucose chart.
